I am a Miami native and former family photographer. In 1991, I graduated from the University of Georgia then earned an MBA from the University of Miami. I taught memoir writing in prison and wrote a memoir with Clifton K. Jones (Too-Tall), an incarcerated man and friend. One of my favorite jobs is working with teens to discover what makes them unique in the world. As a writing tutor and coach, I assist in the crafting and editing of personal essays and manuscripts. Writing has been my way of discovering my own worth and helping me through the loss of my daughter.
Click on the links or visit "My Publications" page to read my essays in The Washington Post, Mutha Magazine, Scary Mommy, Ravishly, Modern Loss, NextTribe, Business Insider and Huff Post.
My stories and my voice can also be heard on Writing Class Radio, an award winning podcast I co-produced and co-hosted for 16 years and which has been downloaded more than one million times.
In the fall of 2026, I will be attending St. Thomas University School of Law as a full-time student.
